The red maple is just about done flowering and the leaves are growing.
Doves enjoying a rest in the oak tree. It just barely starting to leaf out.
I put peanuts out today so the bluejays were out in force to fight over them. This scrub jay tries to grab as many as he can at one time. I think he could eat more in the end if he just took one and came back, but he spends times readjusting them in his mouth and trying out different peanuts to get as many as possible before he flies into the trees to eat. (You can see the blooming huckleberry bush behind him)If they think other jays will get more peanuts than they will, they will quickly hide as many as they can in planters or other loose soil. When I am gardening I constantly find buried nuts and throw them back out into the yard.
The Steller's Jay doesn't spend as much time on the ground so harder to get a good picture of him. He grabs one peanut at a time and flies off to eat it.

That scrub jay is a hoot. We've all known people just like him! Liz
